Miami County Plaza

Miami County Plaza

Troy, Ohio

The plaza project at the Miami County Courthouse surrounded two county buildings with safe, secure access that is aesthetically appropriate to the historic courthouse building. The extensive project included complete removal of the unsafe tunnels, waterproofing of the courthouse foundation and the pedestrian tunnel between the two buildings. Façade lighting was added to the courthouse and emergency technology was coordinated. The plaza was designed using as much historic stone as possible along with new brick and bronze pavers. The surrounding stone wall was preserved and site furnishings, irrigation and plant material, historically appropriate site pedestrian and accent lighting, and wayfinding and historic information signage were added. The historic stone columns from the original county jail were relocated into a new water feature with a floor created from the original sandstone sidewalks.
